Court Orders for disclosure of information held by police

In order to improve the response by Devon & Cornwall Constabulary to requests by
way of court orders for disclosure of information in civil/family court proceedings a
dedicated unit has been opened to deal with these requests.

The Central Disclosure Unit (CDU) is based at Crownhill Police Station, Plymouth
and deals with requests from across the two counties. The CDU currently deals with
Court production orders directing the Constabulary to disclose information - largely
in relation to child and domestic abuse investigations/inquiries. The CDU also
respond to requests from Housing Associations and Local Authorities under the
Housing Act 1996 and the Crime and Disorder Act 1998.
